What is Reiki and how can it help?
Reiki is a form of energy healing originating in Japan. It is the gentle art of hands on and hands off body healing. The Japanese words of Rei and Ki translate to mean Universal and Life Force. Ki has a similar meaning as Chi in Chinese and Prana in Sanskrit. An imbalance in ones Ki, life force, can inhibit the basic vital energy responsible for the maintenance of health.
The energy is accessed by the practitioner and passed through to the client, animal or object. The process of a Reiki session is deeply relaxing and may bring about positive changes to the body’s natural healing ability to promote wellbeing and reduce stress. Clients often report feeling supported in mind, body and spirit.
Reiki dates back to the early 1900’s and was developed by Buddhist Monk Dr Mikao Usui. Safe and natural it is used alongside and in conjunction with licenced medical or psychological care. A Reiki practitioner does not diagnose symptoms or perform medical treatment.
When choosing a Reiki Practitioner, it is important to find one that can trace their lineage from their Master Teacher, the instructor who attunes them to Reiki, back to the founder Dr Mikao Usui.
What does a Reiki Practitioner do?
The Reiki Practitioner will have a brief chat with you to find out what it is you would like to gain from experiencing a Reiki treatment. Based on this information the practitioner will formulate a plan in their mind of what areas will need more focus during the session. Treatments are generally performed on a massage table but can also be performed seated if need be. During a Reiki session, clients remain fully clothed and are gently covered with towels or blankets and usually a calming eye pillow. Once the client is comfortable the Reiki Practitioner will then access the Reiki energy and commence passing the Universal energy to the client’s body by gently laying their hands on the body or hovering above the body. The areas of the body that are touched upon are head, shoulders, legs, feet, arms and stomach.

What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is a very individual experience with some people experiencing physical sensations and/or emotional symptoms. I aim to provide a comfortable and safe space for either or both of these to occur. Clients often report feeling supported in mind, body and spirit during and after a Reiki session.
